Let's try to list the most common italian pizzas, this will help you to better understand what to order during a trip in my wonderful country, but also will contribute to let you prepare a typical italian dish!
MARGHERITA
Served with tomatoe sauce and mozzarella, a bit of origan and a bit of oil on the top, a few veil of basil are more than welcome! This is the classic way to have pizza in our country, usually this is the cheapest-but-coolest version and we consider this as a real indicator of the quality of pizza in a certain restaurant
CAPRICCIOSA
This is also prepared with mozzarella and tomatoe sauce, but in addition you can put an italian baked ham, mushrooms and artichoke, including also olives and ham.
QUATTRO STAGIONI (four seasons)
Mozzarella and tomato sauce, of course, but then you have to use 4 different "angles" of taste, like ham, black olives, mushrooms, artichoke, peas, salami and/or eggs
QUATTRO FORMAGGI (four cheeses)
No tomato sauce here! Just four kind of assorted cheeses, usually you can find mozzarella, parmesan, blue chees and goat cheese. According with the different region's culture that you can find the variety of the cheese will be different.
VEGETARIANA (veggie)
In this pizza the vegetables rules! Actually, again, there is not a particular recipe with the kind of veggies you've to use, but in general you can find (additionally to tomato sauce and mozzarella) onion, mushrooms, sweet corn, green peppers and zucchini/eggplant
MARINARA (seal pizza)
This is probably the simples and cheapest pizza, served with only tomato sauce and a bit of onion, origan and oil.
NAPOLETANA (neaple's pizza)
This is a typical recipt from Napoli, a lovely town in the south of Italy, located in Campania. Here you can find only tomato sauce, capers in a huge quantity, olives as well and anchovies
CALZONE
"Calzone" is a totally different style of pizza, where the dough, after being filled of ingredients, is closed like a bomb! This is really tasty and can easily keep the heat of the pizza.
